Winter 2001 Issue


Our main feature in this issue is “Basic Bear.” This annual feature will focus on Teddies that are undressed and basically true to form. Eighty-four Teddies make their debut in this feature.

Beverly Port and Theodore B. Bear take a look the different forms of Teddy over the last 100 years. Who knows what the future brings. From hubcaps to figurines, this feature is full of surprises.

Ross Park Zoo’s Teddy Bear Artist Invitational’s
gallery pieces are previewed in this issue. It is a early glance at the artistry to be presented at the show benefiting Ross Park Zoo, Binghamton, New York.

The antique Teddy Bear display at “Atlantique City” was the largest display of antique Teddies in the world, showing the scope of this popular collectible. It is a wonderful opportunity to view rare and unusual Teddy Bears from some of the most prestigious collections.

The artist profiled in this issue is Wanda McCay of Oklahoma.

Show reports include:


The Bear Sleuth goes shopping in Europe and finds an asssortment of treasures, including; a Steiff Bear, a Black Forest Bear carving, a Steiff kitten and old animal and Bear figurines.

“The Bear Appreciation Price Guide”
includes: a Knickerbocker Teddy Bear, a 1907 Steiff Teddy Bear, a vintage Teddy Bear tin, a Bear figurine with thermometer, a Bear souvenir spoon, and an early Steiff fox.

Book Reviews include: In Search of Teddy, by Joan Greene, Bears Across Canada, compiled by Cathy Cheung, Ruth Hasman, and Donna Reiner, The Gift, by Alicia Mariscal and illustrated by Angela Cashdollar.

“Kimbearlee’s Kreative Musings” continues with Part Two of the costuming series. Learn how best to costume Teddies within scale.

Passion’s Art Gallery in Arizona is profiled in this issue, before there move to Minneapolis, Minnesota. This Teddy Bear store is chocked full of Teddy Bear art.

Jorg Junginger, of the Steiff family, is memorialized in this issue. He was director of product development for many years in the company.

Our pattern in this issue was designed by Denis Shaw. “Barle” is a tribute to early Teddies.

Alistair
is complaining again. This time it’s about barking dogs and not getting to go to Europe with John and Denis.
